Module positions are the places in a template where Joomla can show modules: menus, the cart, search, a slideshow, custom text and so on. Each template has its own set.
Where to find a template's positions
- Your template's documentation lists its module positions and what each one is for.
- You can also see them outlined on your own site, as below.
Turn on the module position preview (Joomla 5)
- In your Joomla administrator, go to System → Site Templates.
- Click the Options button in the toolbar.
- Set Preview Module Positions to Enabled and click Save & Close.
Preview the positions
- Open your site with ?tp=1 after the address, for example https://www.example.com/index.php?tp=1.
- You will see each module position outlined and labelled with its name.
When you have finished, set Preview Module Positions back to Disabled. Anyone can use ?tp=1 while it is on.
