You can assign module positions to specific Virtuemart categories or product pages and hide module positions from specific Virtuemart product categories and product pages by downloading and installing a 3rd party extension called Advanced Module manager which is compatible with latest version of Joomla 2.5

The advanced module manager extension gives you a lot more control over where modules will be displayed plus it is very easy to use.

If you do not use the above extension it will be a lot more complicated to assign modules to specific virtuemart categories or product pages.
