    Version 5.4.9.1

Quickstart install fix. The quickstart now installs completely on MySQL databases. Before, the Joomla installer stopped part-way through on MySQL hosts; MariaDB hosts were not affected. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this.

    Version 5.4.9

Joomla 5.4.9. Updated for Joomla 5.4.9, a security and bug-fix release. The quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.9.

    Version 5.4.8.1

Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), including the site name and slogan in image alt text, and module, menu and tab titles wherever the template prints them (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu). A setting or title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. The error page escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.

    Version 5.4.8

This is Cosmo's first release as a Joomla 5-native template. It carries the complete modernization of the template — rebuilt on Bootstrap 5, brought current with Joomla 5.4.8 and VirtueMart 4.8.4, and refined through a full graduation walkthrough. Everything below reaches your site when you install or update.

    Added

    • Rebuilt on Bootstrap 5. The whole layout — page grid, containers, rows, columns, responsive breakpoints, tabs, collapsibles, modal dialogs and tooltips — was carried off the retired Bootstrap 2 framework onto Bootstrap 5, the framework Joomla 5 itself ships. This is the foundation the rest of these fixes build on, and it is what makes the template safe to run on current and future Joomla.
    • A real colour picker on every colour setting. The template's colour options used to be plain boxes you typed a hex code into. Each now opens a proper picker with a live swatch, an alpha slider and keyboard support. Existing values carry over untouched.
    • Show / hide control on every password field. The login, registration and account forms now have an eye icon to reveal what you have typed.
    • Style changes now reach visitors immediately after an update. The template's stylesheets are served with a version marker, so browsers stop showing a stale cached copy after you update — previously a visitor had to clear their cache by hand to see the new styling.
    • The print view and pop-up windows were modernized. They — and the pop-ups VirtueMart uses for "ask a question" and similar — were still loading the old Bootstrap 2 stylesheet stack (in some cases stylesheets that no longer existed and simply failed to load). They now use the same Bootstrap 5 foundation as the main page.

    Changed

    • VirtueMart updated to 4.8.4. The bundled store component was brought fully current.
    • Icons moved to Font Awesome 6 throughout. The old Bootstrap 2 icon sprite and the legacy Joomla icon classes were replaced with scalable Font Awesome 6 glyphs, including the social icons. The Admin Options screen used to pull its icon font from a content-delivery network that has since shut down, so those icons failed to load; it now uses the same current icon set as the front end.
    • Drop-down menus no longer rely on old jQuery plug-ins. The menu's hover-and-open behaviour was moved off the legacy Superfish jQuery plug-ins onto built-in browser behaviour, so the navigation no longer depends on that abandoned code.
    • Headings that contain formatting now display it. The site-title and sub-title options accept simple markup (for a styled second word, for example); that markup now renders instead of being printed on the page as literal text, while script and other unsafe content is still stripped.
    • Scrolled-header background. When the header sticks to the top of the page on scroll, it now takes a readable background rather than only reacting to its fixed position.
    • Mobile header refined end to end. No empty band is reserved above the page on phones; the logo stays pinned in the header instead of dropping beneath it; the search panel no longer shows a duplicate submit button and its magnifier icon renders; the cart is a proper control in the mobile toolbar; the menu button is guaranteed to contrast with the bar behind it; and the toolbar icons, spacing and order were tidied. On phones the layout is intentionally full-bleed, matching Cosmo's live demo.

    Fixed

    • The administrator was unusable — every screen you clicked bounced back to the Home Dashboard. Joomla 5.4 ships its "What's New" guided tour set to start automatically, and it grabbed every admin request. The tour is still available for anyone who wants it; it just no longer launches itself. A customer installing the quickstart would have hit this on their first click.
    • A JavaScript error on the template Options screen (jQuery is not defined), left behind when the old colour control was replaced. The Options screen now loads what it needs in its own right.
    • Error pages were being served as a blank 500. The template's error page used Joomla 3 code that no longer exists in current Joomla, so when it ran, Joomla could not draw any error page — every "page not found" came back as a server error instead. Rewritten to the current Joomla API.
    • The login and registration forms could throw a fatal error. The VirtueMart login template used a Joomla 3 form-validation call that was removed in Joomla 5, producing a 500. Replaced with the current equivalent. Thanks to Zoltán for the report.
    • Product rows could collapse. Product listings could render with the row around them squashed to a few pixels tall, letting content below overlap the products. Fixed.
    • Requests for stylesheets that no longer exist were removed. They returned the site's "page not found" response on every single page load, wasting a request and logging a browser warning each time.
    • The customer-review module is now centered on desktop instead of sitting hard against the left.
    • The desktop "show cart" pop-up is sized to its contents. It used to open much wider than the items inside it, leaving a band of empty space down the right.
    • The mobile cart count badge stays on screen. On narrow phones the little item-count number sat at the very edge of the screen, partly cut off; it now tucks onto the top corner of the cart icon.
    • The mobile toolbar icons are consistent. Some of the second-row action icons showed as dark-on-white and others as white-on-magenta; they are now all the same magenta with white icons.
    • The mobile menu (hamburger) bars are centered and evenly spaced in their button, instead of overflowing the bottom edge.
    • Promo banners no longer appear above the account form. On the VirtueMart account page, two left-column promo banners stacked above "Your account details" on phones, so you had to scroll past them to reach the form. They are now hidden on that page (and still shown everywhere they were designed to appear).
    • Many smaller layout corrections carried in from the fleet-wide refinement passes: sideways-scroll and content-bleed at phone width eliminated, clipped drop-down sub-menus, hidden tooltips, a collapsing full-height footer wrapper, search-box sizing, footer-column stacking and slideshow image cropping among them.

    Removed

    • Three bundled third-party demo templates were removed (horme_3, vmbasic, vmbeez3). These older Joomla templates arrived with the original sample data and served no purpose in a Cosmo install. They also carried their own broken (Joomla 3) error pages, so activating one would have produced a 500. Nothing on the site used them.
    • An internal development report file was removed from the download.

    Security

    • Template option values are escaped on output. The colour, size, URL and similar values you set in the template's options are now safely encoded when the template writes them into the page, closing off a class of injection through admin-set fields. The few fields meant to hold formatting are filtered instead, so they still render markup while unsafe content is stripped.
