    Store owners. The account page no longer shows an error when a store owner or vendor is logged in.

    Cart. The cart icon always shows how many items are in the cart, not only on mouse-over.

    Articles. The Previous and Next buttons sit at opposite ends of the article.

    Quickstart. Weblinks updated to 5.2.0.

    Version 5.4.10

    Joomla 5.4.10. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.10 (Joomla 5.4.10 release notes), and the template version is now 5.4.10 to match.

    Error pages. "Page not found" and "access denied" pages now show inside the template, with its header, menus and footer, and fit a phone screen.

    Login, password reset and username reminder pages. These pages showed no form when they had no menu item of their own (for example after a mistyped password). The template now shows the content on every page except the real home page.

    Phones. The blog articles band no longer touches the screen edge.

    Category pages. The category description lines up with the products (no extra space at the sides).

    Quickstart. A fresh install no longer lists stale update notices. Includes MCP for Joomla 2.8.3.

    Quickstart install fix. The quickstart now installs completely on MySQL databases. Before, the Joomla installer stopped part-way through on MySQL hosts; MariaDB hosts were not affected. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this.

    Version 5.4.8.2

    Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), including the site name and slogan in image alt text, and module, menu and tab titles wherever the template prints them (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu). A setting or title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. The error page escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.

    Version 5.4.8.1

    Maintenance release.

    • Joomla 3 compatibility code removed throughout the template. The template's PHP now uses Joomla's current API everywhere — the template files, the component override and every layout override (cart, checkout, product details, login and the modules). The old code only worked while Joomla's Behaviour – Backward Compatibility plugin was switched on, and will not work at all on Joomla 6. The most serious case was the error page: when it failed, Joomla could not display any error page, so an ordinary “page not found” was served to your visitors as a 500 server error.

    Both the template package and the Quick Start have been rebuilt for this release. Download the latest from your member area.

    Version 5.4.8

    BoaxStore 5.4.8 — 2026-08-18

    • Version numbering has changed. From this release the template version matches the Joomla version it is built and tested against, so this is the 5.4.8 build for Joomla 5.4.8. The previous number for this template was 5.4.0.2. Nothing about how you install or update the template changes, and Joomla still treats 5.4.8 as newer than 5.4.0.2.
    • The Quick Start now installs Joomla 5.4.8. The previous Quick Start bundled Joomla 5.4.7. Starting a new site from the Quick Start now gives you the current Joomla release without an immediate update afterwards.
    • VirtueMart has been updated to 4.8.0 — a security update. The Quick Start previously bundled VirtueMart 4.6.8. VirtueMart 4.8.0 is the current release from the VirtueMart team and carries their security fixes, so a site started from this Quick Start begins on the patched version. If you already run this template on an existing site, update VirtueMart there through Joomla's own Extensions → Update screen — the template package does not carry VirtueMart itself.
    • The packaged changelog was missing its most recent entry. CHANGELOG.html inside the template folder stopped at 5.4.0.1 while CHANGELOG.md beside it already carried 5.4.0.2. Both files are now in sync.

    No template file other than the packaged changelog changed between 5.4.0.2 and 5.4.8; the rest of this release is the Joomla and VirtueMart update described above.

    Version 5.4.0.2

    Maintenance release — fixes for issues found in real-world use on a live production site. With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.

    • Fixed: search-module icon rendered as a stray character — the Joomla 3 jui icon font was removed from Joomla core in Joomla 4, so the glyph fell back to a literal character and the dead font reference 404'd on every page. The icon is now a self-contained SVG.
    • Fixed: pagination arrows (first/previous/next/last) rendered as empty squares — Joomla 4+ uses newer icon class names the template never mapped. Now self-contained SVGs.
    • Fixed: featured/blog articles showing only their title — tall single-column intro articles were clipped by the blog layout CSS.
    • Improved: search button sits snug against the search input.
    • Fixed: the template version shown after install now tracks the real release version.

    Version 5.4.0.1

    Bugfix release. Fixes a legacy Joomla 3 form-validation call (behavior.formvalidation, removed in Joomla 5) in the VirtueMart login template override, which could cause a 500 - behavior::formvalidation not found error on pages where the login block is shown to guests — for example the cart, depending on your VirtueMart settings. The override now uses the Joomla 5-native behavior.formvalidator.

    Found during the follow-up on the 2026-07-15 report — thank you again, Zoltán!

    Also fixed: a legacy behavior.modal call (helper removed in Joomla 4/5 — fatal behavior::modal not found) in the mod_virtuemart_product slick-slider override. Bootstrap 5's data-bs-toggle="modal" markup handles modal opening natively.

    Version 5.4.0

    Full Joomla 5-native modernization. BOAX Store has been rebuilt from its Bootstrap 2 foundation into a native Joomla 5 template: Bootstrap 5 styling, no legacy jQuery plugin stack, modern icon and font loading, a zero-console-error browser profile, and a reworked mobile experience. Every change below ships in both the standalone package and the quickstart.

    Added

    • Bootstrap 5 foundation — runs on Joomla 5's bundled Bootstrap 5 with a template-tuned compatibility stylesheet that preserves the original BOAX Store layout pixel-for-pixel.
    • Font Awesome 6.5.2 with v4 shims — replaces the abandoned Font Awesome 4.7 CDN; all template icons upgraded to modern syntax.
    • Five new social networks — Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok and Discord, plus an X (formerly Twitter) rebrand. 13 networks total with Font Awesome 6 brand icons, rel="noopener" and screen-reader labels.
    • Slideshow navigation arrows — persistent previous/next arrows on desktop and touch (previously invisible due to a missing stylesheet).
    • Full-width mobile search — the search icon opens a full-width panel beneath the header (previously clipped off-screen on phones).
    • Modern mobile header — large hamburger top-right beside the logo, single centered icon row (menu toggle, account, register, search, centered cart button).
    • _JEXEC security guard on the template's index.php (the original shipped without one).
    • Package distribution — ships as pkg_boaxstore; updates delivered through Joomla's Update Manager with an active VMT subscription.
    • Direct Google Fonts loading — preconnect + stylesheet link; the async JS injector is gone.

    Changed

    • jQuery UI — the template's bundled (very old) copy silently shadowed VirtueMart's jQuery UI 1.13.2 and broke VirtueMart search autocomplete with a JavaScript fatal on every page; VirtueMart's own current copy now loads.
    • Desktop header utility row — hamburger, account, register, search and cart on one shared midline; larger search glyph; cart is a true circle with the basket dead-center.
    • Mobile slideshow tab labels — real tab names on phones (previously bare index numbers "0" / "1").
    • Template style settings tabs — redundant "Settings" wording removed from 13 tab labels for a cleaner admin view.
    • Footer link columns flush with the column edge; jump-to-top rebuilt as a centered circle; mobile footer gains comfortable side padding.
    • Blog module layout — dates and titles on their intended single lines; a module stylesheet no longer leaks a layout rule page-wide.
    • Post-install messages — fresh installs present the five useful Joomla feature introductions instead of 16 stale notices.

    Fixed

    • PHP 8 fatal count(): Argument #1 ($value) must be of type Countable|array, null given on the cart "Bill To / Ship To" address edit page — guest checkout address editing on PHP 8+ now works (edit_address.php guard).
    • Zero browser console errors — dozens of JavaScript errors per page load and scroll are gone; every root cause fixed rather than suppressed.
    • Login/register modal opens as a centered Bootstrap 5 dialog with backdrop; close buttons work reliably.
    • Cart basket icon centered in its red circle on desktop and mobile.
    • Menu drop-downs on pure CSS hover (identical behaviour, no JS dependency).
    • Site Name / Slogan parameters render rich HTML correctly.

    Removed

    • Legacy JavaScript: superfish/supersubs, jQuery.browser shim, backstretch (vanilla CSS replacement), Stellar parallax and jquery.mobile (both long non-functional), WebFontConfig injector, bundled jQuery UI.
    • Internet Explorer conditional blocks and polyfills (html5shiv, selectivizr, modernizr); legacy Bootstrap 2 stylesheet loads.
    • Dead social networks: Google+, StumbleUpon, Digg, Blogger.

    Security

    • 173 template output call-sites now escape admin-controlled parameters (HTML/attribute escaping plus color and CSS-dimension validators).
    • _JEXEC guard added; PHP 8 hardening in the mod_login override; rel="noopener" on all external links.

    Quickstart bundle

    • Joomla 5.4.7 (current stable) + VirtueMart 4.6.8 with the full BOAX Store demo content (boaxstore-quickstart-J5.4.7-16.07.2026.zip).
    • Installs through the standard Joomla web installer — you create your own super-user credentials; no shared admin password ships.
    • Fresh-install hygiene: zero hit counters, no stale locks, cleaned update sites, current copyright year. StageIt for Joomla 5 and MCP For J included.

    Standalone package

    • First release in the package-wrapper format (pkg_boaxstore-5.4.0.zip) — installs and updates through Joomla's Extension Manager / Update Manager.
