The Quickstart: your new shop, set up like the demo

Every VirtueMart template we sell comes with a Quickstart. It is one zip file that installs a complete Joomla 5 shop that looks just like the template's live demo, with the pages, menus, modules and sample products already in place. You start from a finished-looking store, not an empty site, and swap in your own logo, products and words.

What is inside the Quickstart

• Joomla 5.4.10, ready to install with Joomla's own installer.
• VirtueMart 4.8.4 with its modules and plugins.
• Your template, installed, set as the default and configured like the demo.
• The demo content: menus, modules, articles, images, VirtueMart categories and sample products.
• StageIt, so you can make a staging copy of your shop and try changes there before your customers see them.
• Akeeba Backup, so you can take a full backup of your site from the first day.
• No shared default login. You create your own administrator account while you install.

How the install works

If you have installed Joomla before, this will feel familiar. The Quickstart is installed the same way.

   Download it

   Log in and open My Downloads. In your template's Joomla5 / quickstart folder you will find a file such as aeon-quickstart-J5.4.10.4.zip (about 55 to 72 MB).

2. 2

   Create a database

   In your hosting control panel, create a MySQL or MariaDB database and a database user with all privileges. Write down the names and the password.

3. 3

   Upload and extract

   Upload the zip to the empty folder your shop will live in (often public_html) and extract it there, for example with your host's File Manager.

4. 4

   Run the Joomla installer

   Open your domain in a browser. Joomla's installer starts: enter your site name, your own administrator account and the database details. When it finishes, your shop looks like the demo.

What your hosting needs

• Hosting that runs Joomla 5 with PHP 8.3 or later.
• A MySQL or MariaDB database.
• A way to upload and extract a zip file (your host's File Manager, or FTP plus SSH).

It installs anywhere Joomla 5 installs, including a local test server on your own computer.

After you install: five things to do

1. Make it yours. Change the logo, colours and site name in the template settings (System → Site Template Styles, then click your template).
2. Set VirtueMart's Safe Path. VirtueMart needs a private folder for invoices and keys. How to set the Safe Path.
3. Enter your shop details and switch on payments. Add your shop name, address and currency in VirtueMart, then set up payment and shipping methods. Our VirtueMart payment guide walks through the payment plugins.
4. Place a test order before you go live. If VirtueMart says "No user is marked as vendor", or the last checkout step shows an error, contact support and we will put it right with you.
5. Replace the sample products and pages with your own, and take a backup with Akeeba Backup when you are happy.
