October 16, 2026
Version 5.4.10.2
New: Retro Mode. A new Retro Mode tab on the template style (System → Site Template Styles → your Flexi style → Retro Mode) lets phones and tablets keep the classic desktop look. Added at a customer's request.
Retro Mode: phones. "Phone header style" (screens up to 767 px wide) can be Modern, the default and unchanged, or Classic. Classic shows the desktop header stacked in one column: the logo box, the Register and My account links, the social icons and the menu as a list (a + button opens sub-menus). The cart stays in the breadcrumb row, as on the desktop.
Retro Mode: tablets. "Tablet header style" (768 to 979 px wide, tablets held upright) can be Modern, the default and unchanged, or Classic. Classic centres the logo box at its desktop size, puts the social icons and account links in one row, and runs the menu bar across the full width. Wider screens always show the full desktop header.
Retro Mode: caching. When you change these settings and click Save, the template empties Joomla's page cache, so visitors see the new header on their next page load.
October 16, 2026Version 5.4.10.1
Store owners. The account page no longer shows an error when a store owner or vendor is logged in.
Cart. The cart icon always shows how many items are in the cart, not only on mouse-over.
Cart. An empty cart now says so instead of opening a blank box.
Phones. The show-password button stays on the same line as the password field.
Articles. The Previous and Next buttons sit at opposite ends of the article.
Quickstart. Weblinks updated to 5.2.0.
October 15, 2026Version 5.4.10
Joomla 5.4.10. The Quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.10 (Joomla 5.4.10 release notes), and the template version is now 5.4.10 to match.
Error pages. "Page not found" and "access denied" pages now show inside the template, with its header, menus and footer, and fit a phone screen.
Quickstart. A fresh install no longer lists stale update notices. Includes MCP for Joomla 2.8.3.
October 10, 2026Version 5.4.9.2
Fix. On phones, the subcategories in the VirtueMart category menu now open when you tap the arrow, the same as on desktop.
Quickstart. MCP For J updated to 2.8.2.
The phone fix was made right away as a result of a pre-sales inquiry. Thank you, Manuel, for taking the time to point it out!
October 2, 2026Version 5.4.9.1
Quickstart install fix. The quickstart now installs completely on MySQL databases. Before, the Joomla installer stopped part-way through on MySQL hosts; MariaDB hosts were not affected. Thanks to Iryna for reporting this.
Quickstart. Removed leftover files from the quickstart's top folder.
September 30, 2026Version 5.4.9
Joomla 5.4.9. Updated for Joomla 5.4.9, a security and bug-fix release. The quickstart now installs Joomla 5.4.9.
September 30, 2026Version 5.4.8.3
Fix. After the previous security update, print and email views, popup windows and the VirtueMart checkout step (pages served with
tmpl=component) could return an error page. The template'scomponent.phpnow defines the escaping helper it uses. There are no visual changes. Please update if you installed the previous version.September 28, 2026Version 5.4.8.2
Security update. Module, menu and tab titles are now escaped wherever the template writes them into your pages (module headings, title attributes and the mega menu), so a title containing a quote or markup can no longer break out of its place in the page. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.
September 28, 2026Version 5.4.8.1
Security update. Every template setting that is written into your pages is now escaped for the place it lands in (HTML, attributes, CSS and JavaScript), so a setting value can no longer break out of its context. The error page now escapes its message and title too. There are no visual changes. Recommended for all sites.
September 12, 2026Version 5.4.8
This is Flexi's first release as a Joomla 5-native template. It carries the complete modernization of the template: rebuilt on Bootstrap 5, brought current with Joomla 5.4.8 and VirtueMart 4.8.4, and refined through a full graduation walkthrough. Two long-standing faults in this template stopped customers dead, and both are fixed below. Everything listed reaches your site when you install or update.
Fixed - the two that stopped customers
- Your entire shop returned a blank error page. Every category listing, and any other view that pages through results, failed with a server error instead of showing products. The template's own pagination file used a piece of code that PHP 7 tolerated and PHP 8 treats as a fatal error, so the moment a store moved to PHP 8 the shop went dark while the home page, cart and manufacturer pages all kept working, which made it look like a VirtueMart problem rather than a template one. The faulty file has been removed; category pages now list products normally.
- There was no way for a visitor to log in. The "My account" control in the header had been commented out of the template, so the header offered Register and nothing else. The slide-down login panel it was supposed to open was present and fully styled the whole time, simply unreachable. The control is restored, and the panel opens and closes properly.
Fixed - things that quietly did nothing
- "Show cart" in the header did nothing when clicked. Its behaviour was written for MooTools, a JavaScript library Joomla dropped at version 4, so the code threw an error on every page instead of opening the cart. Rewritten to run without any library at all.
- Collapsible module headings did nothing, and took the rest of the page's JavaScript with them. Same cause. Because the error happened while the page was still being set up, it could stop later scripts on the page from running at all.
- A script for tooltips was still being loaded although nothing on the page used it. It only added an error to the browser console and a file to download on every visit.
- Every error page was served as a server error. The template's error page still used Joomla 3 code that no longer exists, so when a visitor hit a missing page Joomla could not render the "page not found" screen and returned a generic server error instead, hiding what had actually happened.
Fixed - the parts of the template nobody had modernized
- The print view, VirtueMart's pop-up windows and the error page were still pre-Joomla-5. All the modernization work to date had only ever touched the main page layout. These other views still loaded Bootstrap 2, stylesheets from a Joomla 3 folder that no longer exists, and Internet-Explorer-only code. They now load the same modern framework as the rest of the template.
- Stylesheet links pointing at files that are not in the template. Each one returned a "page not found" from Joomla and was refused by the browser, on every single page load.
- Stylesheets were served without a cache-buster. After updating the template, visitors kept seeing the old styling until they manually cleared their browser cache.
- The template's own Options screen loaded its icons from a content network that has been shut down, so those icons failed to load every time you opened the screen.
- The Google web-font loader was still running in the pop-up view, long after it had been replaced on the main page.
- A development report file was riding along inside the template folder. Removed.
Fixed - the shop itself
- The quantity and remove buttons on the cart page were blank. They were drawn from an icon sprite that shipped with Joomla 3 and was removed in Joomla 4, so the buttons still worked but showed nothing at all, and the missing file was requested on every visit to the cart. They now carry proper icons.
- The login form in the checkout could fail with a server error. It called a Joomla 3 form-validation routine that was removed in Joomla 5. With thanks to Zoltán Szász, whose report led to this fix across our templates.
- Two Klarna payment plugins were removed. They were part of VirtueMart 3, were dropped entirely from VirtueMart 4, and had been advertising an update that could never install. They were disabled and unused.
- VirtueMart brought current, from 4.6.8 to 4.8.4.
- Product rows could collapse to a few pixels tall, letting whatever followed overlap the product tiles.
Fixed - on phones and tablets
- A new mobile header. A proper menu button, a slide-out navigation drawer, a search panel, and a row of controls for your account, registration, search, social links and the cart. All six are a consistent size and comfortably tappable.
- The cart control in the mobile header was so wide it pushed the controls at both ends off the screen. It is now a compact button like its neighbours, and the cart panel it opens is a solid, readable panel that stays on the screen instead of running off the right edge.
- A large logo could render at its full size on a phone, filling the header with a hugely magnified crop of itself.
- The built-in slideshow could collapse to a thin strip with a large gap beneath it.
- The menu button was hard to see against a coloured header bar. Its bars and outline are now chosen to contrast with whatever colour sits behind them.
- Stray lines appeared across the coloured header bar, which read as a broken background image.
- The page could be dragged sideways on some views, revealing an empty strip.
- The breadcrumb trail and the cart summary stacked onto two lines instead of sharing one, pushing the whole page down.
Fixed - the account page
- The account page no longer shows the shop's promotional sidebar or slideshow. On a phone a customer had to scroll past the category menu, a promotional banner and the full slideshow before reaching "Your account details". The form now starts at the top of the page, and on a desktop it uses the full width instead of leaving an empty column beside it.
Fixed - the Template Options screen
- All 41 colour settings were plain empty text boxes. To change a colour you had to already know its hex code and type it correctly. Every one now shows a proper colour picker with a live swatch, built into the template so nothing is fetched from an outside site.
- A JavaScript error on the Options screen. Joomla's own colour field used to pull in jQuery as a side effect; with that field replaced, older admin scripts that depended on the coincidence began failing.
- The template's Details panel was unreadable in Joomla's dark admin theme. It shipped a hardcoded light treatment and now follows whichever theme you have selected.
- Joomla 5.4's "What's New" tour took over the first visit to the administrator, sending every link to the dashboard. The tour still works, it just no longer starts by itself.
- Tab labels and section headings tidied, and a Favicon tab added with a crop tool and a full set of device icons.
Fixed - the maintenance set from a customer report
These came out of a bug report on another of our templates and were applied across the range. With thanks to Michael Mullan, whose Expression bug report led to this maintenance pass across our templates.
- An icon font pointing at a Joomla 3 folder that no longer exists, which produced four missing-file requests on every page and a stray character where the search icon should be.
- Pagination arrows rendering as empty squares.
- A tall single-column featured article being clipped to just its title.
- The search button detaching itself from the search box.
Fixed - layout and display faults
These are the individual faults the Bootstrap 5 rebuild resolves. They are listed separately because "rebuilt on Bootstrap 5" does not tell you which of them you were actually looking at.
- Every tabbed product panel showed at once. "Best Deals", "Hot Offer" and the rest rendered stacked one under another instead of one at a time, so the same area of the page repeated itself three times over.
- Sidebar menus rendered horizontally, wrapping across two rows instead of stacking, which also pushed the footer a long way down the page.
- Collapsed menu sections rendered fully open, so a sidebar menu ballooned and shoved everything below it down.
- A stray bullet point appeared beside every product tile, and beside every logo in the brand strip.
- Product tiles overflowed their row, pushing the last tile onto a line of its own.
- The cart's hover panel rendered permanently open as a visible block on the page, instead of staying hidden until used.
- The currency selector was cramped - its label sat flush against its own border and longer currency names ran underneath the dropdown arrow.
- On a phone the slideshow had no visible way to move forward or back. The arrows were there but completely transparent.
- The search box was tiny and the mobile search button was blank. The panel opened at about a third of the width it needed, and on a phone the button itself rendered as an empty white square with no magnifying-glass icon at all.
- The close button on the login pop-up was a solid coloured block sitting over the "Login Form" heading, with no X in it.
- The "Sign in with a passkey" icon rendered enormous, swamping its own button on the login page.
- A dead "Follow Us" tab sat across the foot of the page on phones - it could not be tapped and duplicated the working social button in the header.
- Desktop menu dropdowns closed before you could reach them, because of a dead gap between the menu item and the submenu below it.
- Footer columns stayed side by side on phones instead of stacking, rendering so narrow that words broke apart.
- The author and date line under an article headline ran off the side of the page on a phone.
- Breadcrumb links ran off the right edge on interior and account pages, adding a sideways scrollbar.
Added
- Rebuilt on Bootstrap 5. The whole layout, page grid, containers, rows, columns, responsive breakpoints, tabs, collapsibles, modal dialogs and tooltips were carried off the retired Bootstrap 2 framework onto Bootstrap 5, the framework Joomla 5 itself ships. This is the foundation everything else here builds on, and it is what makes the template safe to run on current and future Joomla.
- A password reveal button on every password field, so a customer can check what they typed before submitting.
- The social links were brought up to date. Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok and Discord added; Google+, StumbleUpon, Digg, Blogger and MySpace retired; Twitter relabelled as X. The icons come from a current icon set rather than one that was being fetched from a content network that has since shut down.
- Output from the template's own settings is now escaped before it is printed, so a stray character in a setting cannot break the page or inject anything into it.
Tested on Joomla 5.4.8 with VirtueMart 4.8.4 on PHP 8.3. The template is Joomla 5 native and does not need Joomla's Backward Compatibility plugin. VirtueMart does not yet run on Joomla 6, so this release targets Joomla 5.
