Bootstrap 5 framework layer

• Joomla's own Bootstrap 5 now powers the layout. A purpose-built compatibility bridge keeps any Bootstrap 2 markup in your existing custom module content rendering correctly, so your saved layouts carry over untouched.

• The My Account login now uses Bootstrap 5's native modal — a centered dialog with a dimmed backdrop and a working close button.

Font Awesome 6

• Icons upgraded to Font Awesome 6.5.2, with the official v4 compatibility shim (and a v4 font-face bridge for legacy CSS icon glyphs) so every existing icon keeps rendering after the upgrade.

Modern social set (13 networks)

• Added Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok and Discord alongside X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Vimeo and RSS — all rendered as Font Awesome 6 brand glyphs.

Security guard

• A direct-access _JEXEC guard was added to the template entry point.

Changed

• Google Fonts now load through a standard stylesheet <link> (with preconnect and display=swap) instead of the old WebFont JavaScript loader — fewer scripts and faster text rendering.
• Drop-down and mega-menus rebuilt as pure CSS — no more jQuery menu plugins (Superfish / Supersubs). Menus are faster and no longer depend on the old scripts. Mobile navigation uses lightweight vanilla-JavaScript drawer toggles.
• All 88 template on/off settings converted to Joomla 5 native switchers, and the settings-tab labels tidied up (redundant “… Settings” suffixes removed).
• Joomla core updated to 5.4.7; the bundled MCP for Joomla component updated to 2.3.2; footer copyright year updated to 2026.
• Header utility icons realigned onto a single midline on both desktop and mobile.
• Uniform side inset applied to the promo image rows, footer columns and bottom strips on phones for cleaner edges.
• Version metadata synchronized across the manifest, the Description-tab display string and the template entry point.
• The camera.js slideshow, owl carousels, testimonial rows and Google-font styling are preserved pixel-for-pixel against the previous design (verified at desktop, tablet and phone widths).
• Database hygiene: hit counters zeroed, action logs flushed, post-install messages reduced to the canonical set, template overrides marked reviewed, and broken VirtueMart update-site records disabled.

Fixed

• Cart address-edit page threw a PHP 8 fatal error (count() called on a possibly-empty value) when a shopper edited their billing or shipping address — the guard was corrected across the address-edit override and its variants.
• The legacy Joomla 3 behavior.formvalidation call in the VirtueMart login override was replaced with the Joomla 5 behavior.formvalidator, fixing a fatal error on the login form under Joomla 5. Thanks to Zoltán for the report.
• Retired several obsolete jQuery plugins (Backstretch background image, Stellar parallax, the jQuery.browser shim) and replaced them with modern CSS equivalents; a dead camera.css reference and unguarded selectnav calls that produced browser console errors were cleared — the template now loads with zero console errors.

Security

• 167 output-escaping wraps added across the template's parameter-echo sites, so template settings are safely escaped before rendering.
• Direct-access _JEXEC guard added to the template entry point.

Removed

• The Bootstrap 2 framework — all files (css/bootstrap/, bootstrap-responsive.min.css, bootstrap-extended.css, js/bootstrap.min.js) and their loads.
• IE-era files and conditional blocks (ie6.css, ie.css, IE conditional gates).
• Legacy JavaScript libraries: Superfish, Supersubs, Backstretch, Stellar parallax, jquery.mobile.customized, the jQuery.browser shim, and the WebFont.js loader.
• Dead social networks: Google+, StumbleUpon, Digg and Blogger.
• Unused sibling templates left over from the catalog (horme_3, vmbeez3, VM Basic) and stray build artifacts.

Quickstart

• Complete Joomla 5.4.7 site with VirtueMart 4.6.8, installed through the standard Joomla web installer.
• Demo data included; hit counters zeroed; no personal data in the database.

Package format

• The template ships as the Joomla package pkg_megawebshop-5.4.0.zip — it installs or upgrades in place over an earlier Mega Web Shop install and registers the update server for future one-click updates.
